The Department of Mass Communication and Video Production at Gossner College, Ranchi, recently organized a Communication Skills Workshop for Semester 1 students of the 2025–2028 session. The event aimed to highlight the importance of communication skills in academic, personal, and professional growth.
Understanding the Importance of Communication
During the workshop, Prof. Meena Sinha explained that communication is a vital part of human interaction. It allows both the speaker and listener to connect more effectively. Furthermore, she mentioned that a good communicator must use clear language, the right tone, confident body language, and an expressive vocabulary. In addition, she stressed that good communication builds trust and understanding in every field.
Building Confidence Through Practice
Prof. Tej Munda also shared his valuable insights. He emphasized that self-confidence is essential for developing strong communication skills. Without confidence, even good ideas can lose impact. Therefore, students should continuously practice speaking and improve their presentation style. As a result, they can express their thoughts clearly and make their voices heard among others.
Students’ Active Participation
Throughout the Communication Skills Workshop, several students expressed their views on improving communication both in the media and in daily life. Moreover, many shared personal experiences on how confidence affects communication. Among them, Anupriya Tirkey and Chandan Bodra delivered outstanding presentations. Their clear expression and stage presence received appreciation from the faculty and audience alike.

The session was also attended by Prof. Mahima Golden Bilung (Head of Department), Prof. Santosh Kumar, Prof. Anuj, and Prof. Prabhat. Besides, students from Semesters 2 and 4 joined the workshop, which made the discussion even more interactive and inspiring.
