Ranchi: A one-day Gossner College Basic Life Support Workshop was successfully organized under the joint aegis of the IQAC and the Faculty of Commerce at Gossner College, Ranchi. The workshop aimed to equip students, teachers, and staff with essential knowledge of emergency response, first aid, and life-saving techniques.
The primary objective of the Gossner College Basic Life Support Workshop was to prepare participants to handle critical situations effectively. Moreover, experts demonstrated practical techniques such as CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), artificial respiration, and basic first aid. Using dummy and infant models, participants learned how to respond when a person stops breathing, experiences cardiac arrest, or suddenly loses consciousness.

Expert Insights on CPR and Heart Health
During the session, Gazala Praveen, Senior Faculty at Emversity School of Hospitality and Health Sciences, Ranchi, explained CPR techniques and heart attack symptoms in detail. She highlighted that early signs include chest pain, pain in the left arm, excessive sweating, anxiety, and breathing difficulty. Therefore, immediate medical assistance is crucial in such situations.
Additionally, Sachin Sarkar emphasized the importance of basic life skills. He stated that quick decision-making, mental stability, and first aid knowledge are essential in emergencies. He encouraged students to remain aware and proactive about health safety in daily life.

Understanding Cardiac Arrest vs Heart Attack
Furthermore, Surbhi Chakravarti clarified the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest. She explained that a heart attack occurs due to blocked blood flow to the heart, while cardiac arrest involves a sudden loss of heart function. She also conducted hands-on CPR training for participants.
Faculty members, including Prof. Shyamlesh Kumar, Dr. Nasir Ahmed, Dr. Deepak Sharma, Dr. Ajay Kumar, and others, actively participated in the workshop. Prof. Shyamlesh Kumar hosted the event, while Dr. Ajay Kumar delivered the vote of thanks.
The workshop concluded with a strong message: timely action and awareness can save lives.
