Gossner Cine Fest 5.0 Grand Closing Witnesses a Grand Celebration of Cinema, Culture, and Ideas

The Gossner Cine Fest 5.0 Grand Closing was held with great enthusiasm at Gossner College, organized by the Department of Mass Communication and Video Production. The event began on a spiritual note with a prayer led by Prof. Anurag Purti. Soon after, Semester 4 student Sumit Kumar presented a detailed recap video showcasing key highlights from both days of the festival, setting the tone for the grand finale.

Festival Vision and Growth

Prof. Tej Munda shared an overview of the cine fest and its journey. He stated that Gossner Cine Fest 5.0 serves as a strong platform for cinema lovers and aspiring filmmakers. Over the years, the festival has expanded from a national-level event to an international platform. It now attracts renowned artists, directors, and writers. Moreover, it showcases films from different states and languages, allowing audiences to explore diverse cultures and narratives.

Strong Messages from Chief Guests

Agriculture Minister Neha Shilpi Tirkey delivered a thought-provoking address, especially for the youth. She stated that addiction to social media reels can be more harmful than substance abuse, as it reduces concentration and distracts students from their studies. She urged students to focus on their education, as teachers lay the foundation of their future.

Furthermore, she emphasized that media students must understand propaganda and politics, as journalism is rapidly evolving. Staying updated is essential in today’s media landscape. She also noted that effective communication makes advertising and marketing easier. Importantly, she advised students to always filter the information they consume through news and media.

Former Education Minister Bandhu Tirkey highlighted the importance of communication in everyday life. He stressed that there should be no gaps in communication, especially for media students. He encouraged continuous efforts to improve communication skills. Additionally, he reflected on the changing nature of cinema and mentioned the film Kantara as an example of how tribal life is being represented in a new and impactful way.

Encouraging Emerging Talent

Renowned writer and filmmaker Mahadev Toppo, a member of Sahitya Akademi, praised the cine fest as an excellent platform for media students. He encouraged students to choose subjects based on their interests while making films. According to him, this approach increases both engagement and productivity.

Jharkhand’s “Swarna Kokila” Monika Munda also shared her experience. She mentioned that she has been associated with the fest for many years. Every year, she gets to watch new stories through films and learn from them. She appreciated the diversity of films showcased at the festival and emphasized that music and songs are an essential part of life.

Film Screenings and Themes

Several meaningful films were screened during the festival. The documentary Laal Rekha addressed the issue of menstrual stigma during the pandemic, questioning how girls can be considered impure when they are worshipped as देवी.

A Nagpuri tribal film directed by Sanjay Toppo highlighted the importance of education and expression. It portrayed the story of a quiet girl who finally finds her voice, making people realize the power of speech and education. The film delivered a strong message that every child deserves the right to education, dignity, and expression.

Additionally, the Nagpuri music album Akhiyan, presented by Monika Munda and Prince Barna, showcased a beautifully shot love story. The narrative expressed deep emotional connections between lovers through their eyes, portraying separation due to circumstances and eventual reunion through true love.
