
Ranchi witnessed an engaging second day of the Gossner Cine Fest 5.0 Day 2, organized by the Department of Mass Communication and Video Production, Gossner College. The event began with a prayer song by HOD Prof. Mahima Golden Biliung. A special reel showcasing highlights from day one followed, setting the tone for a vibrant lineup of activities.
Social Media’s Power and Industry Scope
Chief Guest and Torpa MLA Sudeep Gudiya addressed the audience and highlighted the power of social media. He stated that it can turn “zero into hero and hero into zero.” Moreover, he described media as a strong platform for learning and expression. He encouraged students to create meaningful films that connect with society. Additionally, he praised Jharkhand’s rich culture and said the media industry now offers significant employment opportunities. He urged youth to dream big and work consistently toward their goals.
Bishop Pavel Lugun also spoke on the occasion. He said the fest provides an important platform for filmmakers and appreciated the hard work reflected in the films.

International and Academic Sessions
The event featured an international session with American writer and researcher Mary Girard from Florida, who joined online. Speaking on “Vision & Voice,” she shared her experiences of working in Jharkhand and her deep connection with the region.
Furthermore, an academic session was conducted by Debashish Sen Sharma, Professor and HOD of EDM Department at SRFTI. He shared valuable insights into media and film production practices.

Film Screenings and Recognitions
The Gossner Cine Fest 5.0 Day 2 continued with diverse film screenings. The Tamil short film Jeevitham addressed the serious issue of acid attacks. Filmmaker Saurav Samrat, known as ‘Nishachar,’ presented Kaal Shila, which conveyed a message on human vices—lust, anger, and greed. The audience appreciated the film, and the team was honored by the college.
Additionally, the music video Ae Sajni, featuring Anil Topno from the department, was screened.
Cultural Performances and Special Highlights
Cultural performances added energy to the event. Ishika Pandit performed a South Indian dance, which received strong applause. Meanwhile, the teaser of the film Sereng, set for release on May 1, was showcased in the presence of its cast and crew. Filmmaker Purushottam (NPK), associated since the first edition, shared that the fest is becoming a promising platform for cinema lovers.
The Botany Department also presented a vibrant cultural dance.
